By David Droschak on Monday, June 22, 2009 6:38 PM
Lucas Glover’s U.S. Open victory was certainly a shock to most sports prognosticators, but what may be more surprising is just how few majors a talent-rich league like the Atlantic Coast Conference has produced over the last 21 years.

The best college season ever was…?
By David Droschak on Friday, June 12, 2009 5:01 PM
The Florida Gators had quite a sports season in 2006-07 when the Gainesville, Fla., school became the first big-time college program to hold national championship trophies for basketball and football at the same time. By David Droschak on Thursday, January 29, 2009 3:44 PM
If you’re getting good odds, go with a player from either team that played his college ball in the South. Throw out two years that Tom Brady horned in on the award, and six MVPs this decade have come from Dixie schools. The Mannings captured the last two (Eli, Mississippi) and (Peyton, Tennessee) while Hines Ward won it in 2006 (Georgia) with Deion Branch (Louisville), Dexter Jackson (Florida State) and Ray Lewis (Miami) rounding out the decade.

The Galaxy Is Now Aligned with the Southeast’s Two Major Conferences
By David Droschak on Tuesday, January 27, 2009 4:31 PM
Let’s get real for a second: Everybody who follows college sports knows that the SEC is a “football league” and that the ACC is considered a “basketball league.” And while the brass from each league pull out all the PR stops to convince you otherwise, cold hard facts are hard to ignore.

And Heisman Winner Is ….. Sam Bradford
By David Droschak on Monday, December 08, 2008 2:31 PM
I still had about 48 hours to make up my mind on which of the nation’s top three gunslingers I would select for college football’s most prestigious award. But those of you who know me well understand I’m far from a procrastinator. By David Droschak on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 9:32 AM
Rarely do I get excited about amateur golf. It’s like football recruiting to me: A lot of hype and usually not much substance. So and so is the next Tiger Woods or Annika Sorenstam. How many times have we heard that overblown proclamation in the last two decades from followers of junior golf?

Where’s All The Beef?
By David Droschak on Monday, July 07, 2008 3:19 PM
Are we back to the good ole days in Major League Baseball where a base hit is really worth something and going from first-to-third on a single to right field is about good base running and hustle?

No Tiger, No TV For Me
By David Droschak on Monday, July 07, 2008 11:26 AM
Get up you couch potatoes! There has never been a better time to head to the gym, take a walk around the lake or earn some brownie points with your woman through a weekend trip to the mall to shop for shoes. We can thank Tiger Woods for all the free time.

Coming in October: The Swimsuit Series
By David Droschak on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 3:23 PM
Forget about the Subway Series. How about the Swimsuit Series? As in the Florida Marlins vs. the Tampa Bay Rays. I know, I may be getting a little bit carried away in mid May, but one-quarter of the way through the baseball season the “lowly” Marlins, with their measly $21.8 million payroll, and the Rays, with their new nickname and group of young and fearless position players, sit atop their respective divisions, tied for the second-best record in the majors.
